Parkinson’s Boxing for Riverside County
Rise & Strike Boxing is a non-contact, boxing-based fitness class for adults living with Parkinson’s, and we’re proud to be a Riverside County program — based right here in the city of Riverside, inside Flow Academy BJJ. If you or someone you love has Parkinson’s and you’ve been looking for an active, energizing way to stay moving, this is built for you.
Who it’s for
Our members come from all over Riverside County — Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Murrieta, and the towns in between. Most had never boxed a day in their lives before they walked in. You don’t need any experience, and you don’t need to be in any particular kind of shape. If you can stand or sit and throw a punch at a pad, there’s a place for you in the room.
What a class looks like
Class runs about an hour. You warm up, then you work through footwork, mitt rounds where a coach calls combinations and catches your punches, heavy-bag rounds where you set your own pace, and dedicated balance and coordination drills. It’s non-contact from start to finish — you punch mitts and bags, never a person, and nobody ever takes a hit. A coach is beside you the whole time, adjusting each drill to fit you. It’s a group, so you’re working alongside other people who get it, cheering each other on.
Getting here from around the county
Because we’re centrally located in Riverside off Madison Street, most of the county is a straightforward drive on the 91, the 60, or the 215. Folks come up from Corona in about 15 to 20 minutes, over from Moreno Valley in a similar window, and up from the Temecula and Murrieta area in roughly 45 minutes to an hour. There’s parking on site, and the room is easy to get into.
Caregivers are welcome
Spouses, adult kids, and caregivers are welcome to come along — sit in, watch, or jump into the drills if you’d like. A lot of our members train right alongside the person they came to support, and it turns into something they look forward to together.
Your first class is free
The best way to know if it’s a fit is to come do one. Your first class is free, with no commitment. Classes run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 AM. If you’re thinking about starting any new exercise, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor first — then come see what a room full of people fighting back looks like.
